What does the infamous Black Star Pastry watermelon cake, ice cream extraordinaires Gelato Messina and Argentinian favourite Porteno Restaurant have in common? The cricket. (And being exceptionally delicious, but let’s focus on the former for the time being)
Yup, all of these Sydney foodie favourites will be at this Saturday’s Southern Stars T20 match against New Zealand at North Sydney Oval.
To celebrate this fantastic marriage of food and sport, we popped into Black Star Pastry’s Newtown digs and treated ourselves to a giant slab of the aforementioned watermelon cake (what can I say, research is important). It’s the perfect spring treat, fusing creaminess with the fruity, summery taste of watermelon and strawberries and a denser cake base and top.
It’s as delicious as we remembered, and sure to keep you energised and your taste buds satisfied while cheering for our Aussie girls as they (hopefully) take down the Kiwis this weekend.
The match is on this Saturday, 29 September at North Sydney Oval. Gates open at 6pm, with the game starting at 7:10pm. Purchase tickets at www.cricket.com.au/tickets
